Net-Zero Emissions by 2050

Liberals recognise the urgency of climate change and since 2016, have put policies in place to mitigate GHGs and move from a high-carbon to a low-carbon economy.

We’ve instituted an oceans protections plan, protected marine and land areas, banned single use plastics, put a price on pollution, and invested in renewable energy. Our announcement today builds on this work, and acknowledges that nations successful in bringing down GHG emissions have used scientific panels to find solutions. We intend to do just that.

We have reached three quarters of our emissions goals in four years and will reach our emissions goals for 2030 before the date set. We have committed to zero-emissions by 2050 and will accomplish this by setting five year, legally binding goals. We will also cut corporate tax in half for zero-emission clean tech companies and invest in skills training for workers to transition into clean tech sectors.
